The State of Education 2023

The Dutch Inspectorate of Education reports yearly about the state of education. The education report ‘The State of Education 2023’ outlines developments and key themes in Dutch education. In this report you will find a summary that reflects on major developments and facets of education that are in need of improvement.

In our meetings with teachers, school leaders and school governing boards, we saw that there is a widely shared consensus that basic skills and equal opportunities are the most important goals for our education system. There are bright spots in the development of basic skills and equity, but a stable long-term strategy is desperately needed to reverse the downward trend. Boards can make an important contribution to this. This is the conclusion of the Education Inspectorate in the State of Education 2023.
